SCIP DATABASE NOTIFICATION
15 December 2020
ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) has established that those who produce, assemble, import or distribute articles in the EU or, in general, all actors in the supply chain who introduce articles into the European market (article suppliers), starting from 5th January 2021, they will be required to notify the SCIP database only if the same articles contain SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) substances included in the "REACH Candidate List" in concentrations higher than 0.1% by weight. Lead (Pb) contained in our alloys is one of the substances for which the SCIP Notification is mandatory.

Dear Customer / Supplier,

Companies ALMAG and BERNA ERNESTO fully aware of the ongoing health emergency, inform the temporary stop of production for a week starting from tomorrow evening Friday 13/3/20.

Deliveries of bar and collection of scrap in week 12 (from 16th to 20th of March) are guaranteed, compatibly with the situation development.

The decision was taken also as an additional protection for co-workers and employees, despite the fact that both companies have rigorously implemented all the actions recommended by the anti-contagion safety protocols, being always fully operative with not one positive case registered

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are confident that our initiative will be fully understood by you.

BRASS WITHOUT LEAD
15 February 2019
The regulatory framework for the use of lead in industry is undergoing substantial changes.
• REACH has recently included the lead in the SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) list.
• The European Union is about to publish the revision of the DWD (Drinking Water Directive) which will lead to a further reduction of lead content in the water intended for human consumption.
• The revision of the RoHS directive in 2021 could also lead to a significant reduction in the lead content in brass alloys.
Today the use of the usual alloys is absolutely allowed.
However, in order to anticipate possible market demands, ALMAG has already taken steps to create lead-free variants (<0.1%) of the alloys:
• CW509L
• CW510L
• CW511L
The same are available for both hot forging and mechanical processing.
The refinement of the alloy and particular arrangements in the composition allow however to maintain good parameters of workability and cutting.
The technical data sheets can be downloaded from the website www.almag.it.
For further details you can contact us at the usual email address.

REACH - NEW REVIEW
03 October 2018
REACH - Regulation (EC) 1907/2006

With a review dated 27th of June 2018, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) has included metallic lead (Pb) in the list of the highly concerned substances (SVHC) according REACH (Regulation 1907/2006) due to its harmonized hazard classification basis as "Toxic for reproduction" (category 1A).

The semi-finished products produced by Almag Spa are classified as "Articles" under the Reach Regulation Article 3 (3) and are not subject to safety data sheet arrangement according to article 31 same regulation. However ALMAG SpA has arranged a "product form" that includes standard obligations and enough information to guarantee product safety in standard and expectable conditions of use.

Regarding the article life cycle, if disposal of production offcut is made as "WASTE", it is highly recommended to ensure that they are correctly classified according to current legislation. In case of placing on the market as "BY-PRODUCTS" it is recommended to pay attention to national legislation obligations and current Reach and CLP regulations.

The new SVHC declaration can be downloaded at:

LIST METAL MATERIALS SUITABLE FOR CONTACT WITH DRINKING WATER
01 February 2016
On 10 April 2015 the German Federal Environmental Agency has formalized the list of metallic materials suitable for contact with drinking water. This list, also called LU List or 4MS Common Composition List, presents a series of paragraphs which are characterized by the main elements constituting the alloy. In paragraph 2.3, for example, are the alloys containing: copper, zinc and lead and then in group B and C: CW617N and CW612N; Group C: CW614N and CW603N.

In the same paragraph listed chemical compositions which in some cases differ with respect to the composition defined in European standards of product. The official publication of the list starts the transitional period of two years and therefore with effect from 10 April 2017 may be used for drinking water only the alloys indicated in the list. The alloy CW602N, for example, must therefore be replaced by 2017 with one of the alloys shown in the list.

The list is formalizing the version of 4 September 2013 while it is already available in the version of 20 January 2015 that waits to be approved the notification of the European Commission.

ALLOYS SUITABLE FOR CONTACT WITH DRINKING WATER AS LISTED 4MS
19 January 2016
Waiting for the revision of the European standards for copper alloys, Almag Spa has decided to introduce from January 2016 an amendment to the name for the alloys included in '' Positive list of metallic materials hygienically suitable for contact with drinking water (UBA List or 4MS Positive List). For these alloys, in fact, the new rules include the introduction of initials DW (Drinking water) to be added to the number of the alloy designation. For the CW617N alloy used in contact with drinking water, the designation will become CW617N-DW. That statement, to be communicated when the enquiry will be issued, will lead to a request for an alloy with chemical composition in accordance with restrictions included in the 4MS list.
